Values and inspiration

We believe in the power of play and art making to empower and challenge.

We are heavily inspired by the practice and pedagogy of Reggio Emilia. Sharing the principle belief in the capability and competence of all children.

We are thoughtful in our interactions with children, respecting their opinions, theories and way of embodying the same. We value each mode of self expression chosen by the child; referred to in Reggio Emilia as the 100 languages.

In practice this means we are responsive in our work; observing, reflecting, adjusting.

We also believe in supporting creatives and makers. At the play tent studio we are making deliberate efforts to engage local creators. For instance, our sign was hand painted by 'Third Eye Signs', our mugs commissioned from Lorna Gilbert Ceramics and photographs of our Atelier sessions at Leeds Art Gallery taken by Tim Dunk of Light Space Studios in Meanwood. We serve only 'Malawian coffee' an ethical coffee brand established here in Leeds..

We are thoughtful about reuse and source the majority of our resources from SCRAP. We also had the joy of finding a great deal of our studio furniture from Re: Source an incredible charity who work to re-home creative props and furniture, predominantly from the theatre / creative arts industry.
